Subarnapur: A Samiti Member was allegedly shot dead by unidentified miscreants on the Chinajuri canal road under Dunguripali block in Odisha's Subarnapur district late Thursday night.

The deceased has been identified as Achyuta Nayak, a resident of Duduka village under Aglapur panchayat in Bargarh district's Barpali block.

According to preliminary information, unidentified miscreants called Nayak over the phone and asked him to come to the Chinajuri canal road. Nayak reached the spot in his car.

As soon as he arrived, the miscreants opened fire at him. The bullet hit him in the neck.

Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and launched an investigation. A cartridge was found inside the car.

The exact motive behind the shooting and the identity of the attackers were yet to be established. Further details are awaited.
