Nabarangpur: Two women were killed and three others sustained critical injuries after a head-on collision between a car and a trailer truck near Jhitikiguda on the national highway under Papadahandi block in Nabarangpur district on Sunday.

Andhra family returning from Puri meets with fatal accident in Odisha

According to reports, a family from Andhra Pradesh was travelling in a car bearing registration number AP40EP1223 from Puri to their in-laws’ house in Nabarangpur, Odisha. The occupants included two women, two men and a child.

During the journey, the car reportedly collided head-on with a trailer truck bearing registration number TN28BK6116 that was heading towards Kalahandi.

Soon after the accident, police and fire services personnel reached the spot and rescued all five occupants from the severely damaged vehicle. The injured were initially admitted to the Papadahandi Community Health Centre for treatment.

However, after preliminary medical examination, doctors declared the two women dead. The remaining three injured persons were stated to be in critical condition and were later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Nabarangpur for advanced treatment.

Police have started an investigation into the incident.
