Deogarh: Tension prevailed in Odisha’s Deogarh district on Thursday after irate villagers allegedly tied three electricity department employees to an electric pole during a protest over prolonged power disruption.

Four-day power disruption triggers tension in Dudhianali village

The incident was reported from Dudhianali village under Tileibani block in the district. According to reports, power supply in the area had remained disrupted for the last four days following damage caused by thunderstorm.

A team of electricity department staff had reached the village on Thursday to restore the power supply when agitated villagers allegedly detained the employees and tied them to an electric pole. The villagers reportedly demanded that senior officials of the electricity department visit the spot and address their grievances.

Residents alleged that the prolonged power outage had severely affected agricultural activities, causing damage to crops and vegetable cultivation in the area. The villagers claimed repeated complaints had failed to yield any immediate solution, leading to mounting frustration.

On receiving information about the incident, police from Kansar outpost rushed to the village to bring the situation under control and initiate discussions with the protesters.
