Balangir: A shocking murder case has come to light in Odisha’s Balangir district, where a woman was allegedly killed by her brother-in-law after she rejected his advances. The police have reconstructed the crime scene, during which the accused confessed to the crime.

The incident came to light two days ago when the body of Janaki Sahu was recovered near Chitramunda village under Muribahal police limits. Police detained the accused, Bhujraj Sahu, and began questioning him.

After interrogation and a detailed investigation, the accused admitted to the crime. On Tuesday morning, police conducted a scene recreation, during which Bhujraj reportedly narrated the sequence of events.

According to police, the accused had been making repeated romantic advances towards Janaki for quite some time. However, she consistently refused his proposals, which led to frequent arguments between them. Taking advantage of the absence of the victim’s husband, who works outside the state, the accused allegedly continued to approach her for a relationship.

The family had earlier approached the police regarding the matter a few months ago.

On the day of the incident, Bhujraj again approached Janaki at a farmland and proposed to her. When she refused, he allegedly attacked her with a stone, leading to her death.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer Laxmi Narayan Marandi said that the accused committed the murder after his proposal was rejected. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
