Malkangiri: A youth reportedly attempted suicide by climbing a mobile tower at Singarajkonda under Padia police limits in Malkangiri district on Saturday morning. 

The 30-year-old youth, a resident of Undrukonda village, remained atop the tower for some time, triggering panic among locals.

Upon noticing the situation, local residents immediately informed the family members and the fire services. Personnel from the fire department rushed to the spot and initiated a rescue operation.

The rescue team engaged the youth in conversation, counselling him and persuading him to come down. After sustained efforts, the youth was safely brought down from the tower without any injuries.

Love angle suspected, cause yet unclear

While the exact reason behind the suicide attempt is yet to be officially confirmed, initial reports suggest a possible love-related issue. Authorities are expected to investigate further to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.

The timely intervention by the fire services averted a potential tragedy. The youth is currently safe, and further steps are likely to be taken to ensure his well-being.
