Malkangiri: Challenging the security forces in cut off area of Malkangiri district, the Maoists set up a permanent camp ahead of People’s Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA) week starting from December 2.

The rebels constructed a building, painted in red colour and cordoned off the place with the barricades like police station, in a remote area near Totaguda village in Jantri panchayat in Chitrakonda area of the tribal district.

Sources said that Maoist leader Samara and his wife will be in charge of the management of the office.

The Maoists office will be officially inaugurated on the first day of the PLGA week on Dec 2.

The red rebels are planning to recruit tribal youths in the remote and inaccessible parts and involve them in the organisation during the PLGA week, which will conclude on Dec 8. The newly recruited members will be given proper training.

Sources said that various Maoists' programmes will be managed by the red office.

Besides, the left-wing extremists have called for observing the week long PLGA programme by putting up the posters in various areas in Malkangiri and Kandhamal districts.

However, police seized the posters and are keeping vigil on the movements of the ultras in the LWE areas.

"We are informed about the posters. We have beefed up the security in the area in view of the PLGA week. The BSF has also alerted all its camps," said Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena, who is monitoring the situation in the area.

However, construction of a permanent camp by the Maoists ahead of the PLGA week created panic among locals.

Earlier, the red rebels were observing the PLGA week by setting up temporary structures in form of 'Martyrs memorial'.
