Minor girl molestation in Odisha capital: Accused arrested

Bhubaneswar: A few days after a CCTV footage showing a man molesting a minor girl on her way to tuition classes here surfaced on media raising serious concern among the residents of the Smart City, the Commissionerate Police yesterday detained the accused in connection with the incident.

However, the police did not divulge any details of the accused stating that they will approach court for conduct of Test Identification (TI) parade.

“The accused in Laxmisagar molestation case has been arrested. However, we will not disclose the name or show photograph of the accused as we will pray court for conduct of TI parade,” the Commissionerate Police said in a statement.

On August 27, the CCTV footage of the molestation in Laxmi Sagar area here surfaced on media though the incident had taken place on August 21. The family members of the girl lodged a complaint with police on the very day.

As per the complaint, the girl was heading to a coaching centre on a bicycle early morning, when the accused, who was riding a scooter, intercepted her and initiated a conversation. Later, he molested the girl on the road. The victim raised an alarm, following which he fled the spot.
