More rains to lash Odisha in next three days

Bhubaneswar: Heavy rainfall is likely to lash coastal and southern parts of Odisha in next three days as the cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal turned into low pressure today.

A cyclonic circulation extending upto 7.6 km above mean level tilting southwestwards with height lies over northwest Bay of Bengal off West Bengal and Odisha coasts, Meteorological centre Bhubaneswar said in a release.

Under its influence, a low pressure area is very likely to develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood during next 24 hours, Bhubaneswar MeT director HR Biswas said.

The rain or thundershowers is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of Odisha during 24 hours and thundershowers is very likely to occur at most places over the districts in subsequent 48 hours.

The low pressure is likely to trigger heavy rainfall in the districts -- Malkangiri, Koraput, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur -- of Odisha today.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur over Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Balasore, Cuttack, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur and Balangir districts of Odisha tomorrow, he said.

The regional MeT predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall to occur over Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Kalahandi, Nuapada districts of Odisha on August 20.

The fishermen were advised not to venture into deep sea northwest and westcentral Bay of Bengal area on August 19 and 20.
