Rourkela: Mystery shrouded the death of an Assistant Professor of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela and his wife, whose bodies were recovered from their residential quarters this morning.

The deceased have been identified as R Jayabalan (38), an Assistant Professor of Life Science Department and his 35-year-old wife Malavi Kesavan of Erode district of Tamil Nadu. The couple had married nine years ago.

Sources said the door of the house on the NITR campus was shut for the last two days. On receiving information, police rushed to the spot, broke open the door and recovered the bodies.

Though the exact reason behind the deaths is still unclear, a four-page suicide note has been recovered from the room. Rourkela SP Sarthak Sarangi and a forensic team later reached the spot and began an inquiry into the incident.

"Security In-charge Suman Dutta and Registrar Pradip Das informed us about the incident this morning. It is premature to comment on the matter. We will investigate minutely and then can tell anything," said a police officer.
