Nabarangpur: The Umerkote police last night arrested Jagannath Gouda, who had allegedly made a video featuring intimate moments between him and a minor girl of Jharigaon block in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district viral, following which she committed suicide.

He was arrested from Andhra Pradesh, said Umerkote SDPO Hemant Kumar Padhi.

"Jagannath Gouda was in a relationship with the girl for two years. He had established physical relation with her multiple times during the period. Few days ago, he recorded the moments of their physical intimacy with a mobile phone without the knowledge of the girl. After her family members came to know about the relationship, they arranged her marriage with another youth. However, Jagannath insisted to marry her and sent the video to the youth with whom her family members had fixed her marriage," the SDPO said.

"The clip gradually went viral. On April 30 around 5 pm, the girl went to a nearby forest and committed suicide by hanging herself from a tree. We have registered a case in this connection under Section 376 and other sections of the IPC. The accused has been arrested and he will be forwarded to court after his medical examination," the police official said.
