Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal around October 13 under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the Strait of Malacca, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its bulletin on Sunday.

According to the IMD, the cyclonic circulation, extending up to 9.4 km above mean sea level, persists over the Strait of Malacca. It is likely to emerge over the Andaman Sea during the next 24 hours.

Under its influence, a low-pressure area is expected to develop over the southeast Bay of Bengal around October 13.

However, the weather agency has not yet issued any forecast regarding the system's further intensification or its likely path.

The IMD is expected to provide further updates as the system develops.
