As students complete their Class XII examinations, one question continues to dominate conversations in homes across India: Which degree will secure a meaningful and future-ready career? While many continue to pursue conventional academic pathways, an increasing number of young professionals are proving that success today is defined not merely by the degree they earn, but by the opportunities it creates.

Hospitality education has quietly emerged as one of India's most globally transferable professional qualifications. The modern hospitality graduate is no longer confined to hotels alone. Today, they are leading luxury resorts, managing international airlines, working on global cruise lines, heading multinational operations, driving corporate human resources, and building successful entrepreneurial ventures across continents.

For over three decades, the journeys of NIPS alumni have reflected this transformation in remarkable ways. Their stories are living proof that the right education can open doors to opportunities far beyond geographical boundaries.

Today, Arghya Das serves as General Manager with DoubleTree by Hilton in the United States, leading one of the world's most respected hospitality brands. Moshahid Imran Siddiquee heads Operations across China, Hong Kong and North Africa for BLS International Services Ltd., demonstrating how hospitality professionals can successfully transition into international business leadership.

The global cruise industry has created equally exciting opportunities. Arvinder Singh Khokhar has built an outstanding career with Royal Caribbean International, while Pratik Basu, as Executive Chef with Sandals Resorts in Barbados, represents the growing international demand for Indian culinary professionals.

The story is equally inspiring among women professionals.

Originally from Andhra Pradesh, Farheen came to Kolkata to pursue hospitality education. During her studies, she secured an opportunity with Air India before fulfilling her dream of joining Emirates. Today she travels the world as an international cabin crew professional. Her recent return to NIPS—not as a student but as a confident global professional—to meet her teachers and inspire aspiring students beautifully reflects the lifelong bond between an institution and its alumni.

Anupriya Biswas today serves as Senior Operations Manager at Spirit Ridge Resort – The Unbound Collection by Hyatt in Canada. Sumana Pandey has established herself as Supply Manager with Flyeralarm in Germany, while Saswathi Mukherjee, after an accomplished career with Qatar Airways, now serves as Cabin Service Director with Rise Air in Canada. Beyond corporate careers, alumni such as Gaurav Gujral have demonstrated that hospitality education can also become the foundation for successful entrepreneurship by building businesses in Australia.

These are not isolated success stories. They represent a larger shift in the way hospitality education is shaping careers in the twenty-first century.

The answer lies in the very nature of hospitality itself.

Unlike many professions governed by local regulations or country-specific qualifications, hospitality develops skills that are valued everywhere in the world. Parents, too, are beginning to recognise this transformation. Increasingly, they are asking not only whether a course offers a recognised degree, but whether it develops confidence, professionalism, adaptability and international employability. In a rapidly changing world shaped by Artificial Intelligence and technological disruption, these distinctly human qualities have become more valuable than ever before.

Hospitality today is no longer simply about hotels. It has evolved into a gateway to aviation, cruise lines, tourism, luxury retail, healthcare, customer experience, entrepreneurship and international management. More importantly, it is one of the few professions where talent, attitude and competence can truly travel across borders.

Every passport stamp tells a story.

For thousands of NIPS alumni, that story began in a classroom. Their journeys remind us that education is not measured by where it begins, but by where it enables young people to go.
