Cuttack: Rubbing salt to the wounds of the family of Kunduli gang-rape victim, the Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) of Odisha police today said the medical reports revealed that the minor girl was not gang-raped as claimed by herself and her family.

The HRPC had submitted its report to Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) yesterday after the incident created a state-wide outrage questioning the ability of State police.

Speaking to media, Additional DG HRPC, Mahendra Pratap, said that the medical report submitted by a team of doctors rules out gang rape theory. “The report is based on statements of police, security forces, doctors and other agencies involved in the matter,” he said adding further investigation into the matter is on.

Meanwhile, State Police DG RP Sharma, chose not to speak much about the medical reports instead he reiterated the investigation is on the right track.

“The investigation is going on in a very right direction and HRPC ADG has personally inquired into the matter and submitted the report to OHRC. All medical and scientific experts were engaged to find out the truth. The movement of security forces, who were alleged to be involved in the case, could not be established so far,” said Sharma.

The State’s top cop further said that the Koraput SP has got a vital clue on the case. “I hope the matter will come to an end soon,” he added.

Koraput Superintendent of Police (SP) Kanwar Vishal Singh also denied that the minor girl was gang-raped referring to medical reports.

“As per medical reports given by the team of doctors, chemical examination tests and police investigation, there is no proof that the girl was gang-raped,” the SP told reporters.

He, however, said they have got some important clues in this case and hopeful to get the truth very soon.

The family of the victim fumed over State police by claiming the doctors were pressurized to tweak the medical report.

“As we are poor people, the doctors were bribed to give false report. We know, our daughter didn’t lie and we will fight for the justice,” said a victim’s relative.

Notably, the class-IX student of Kunduli in Koraput district had alleged that she was gang raped by a group of security personnel on October 10 while returning from school.

A case under Sections 376 (D) and 377 of IPC and Section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act had been registered.
