Octogenarian Maharashtra woman wins accolades for Puri beach cleanup in Odisha

Puri: An 85-year-old woman from Maharashtra lend a hand in cleaning a part of the beach in holy town of Puri in Odisha, this month.

Sakhubai Deshmukh, might look like a frail old woman, but with a steely resolve participated in the MoBeach Initiative of the district administration this year.

She, along with followers of Shri Santh Janardhan Swamy Sanstha of Maharashtra participated in cleaning the periphery of Lord Jagannath temple and Puri District Headquarters Hospital on July 26 and also helped tidy the beach, next day.

“We love to serve the God by doing this voluntary work. We did our part. And, now, other people should carry it forward. Keep the surroundings clean, by not littering,” she appealed.

Puri Collector Balwant Singh felicitated Sakhubai with a letter of appreciation and thanked her for the contribution in restoring the holy town of Puri back to its glory after the Fani devastation. Odisha netizens showered her with praises on social media for her efforts.
