Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly today witnessed adjournments following ruckus created by the Congress members over the Mahanadi issue.

As soon as the House assembled for the day and Question Hour began, several Congress MLAs rushed to the well of the House and created din over their demand of discussion over the Mahanadi river water sharing dispute.

Amid pandemonium, Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat initially adjourned the House till 11.30 am and later till 3 pm as ruckus prevailed during the Zero Hour after the House reassembled.

The Speaker also convened an all-party meeting to resolve the deadlock.

"I had requested the Speaker to cancel the Question Hour and have discussion over the Mahanadi issue. He didn't allow me to speak over the matter for which we (Congress members) staged protest in the House," said Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra outside the House.

"When the BJD members had shown interest for the Mahanadi issue, the Opposition members were silent. It has been exposed that the BJP is biased towards Chhattisgarh in the Mahanadi matter. But, the BJD will continue its protest to ensure that the farmers of Odisha receive sufficient share of the Mahanadi water for agriculture," said BJD MLA Captain Dibya Shankar Mishra outside the House.
