Bhubaneswar: Odisha born IAS officer Subhash Chandra Khuntia has been appointed by the Central government as the new Chairman of Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).

A 1981-batch IAS officer and former Chief Secretary of Karnataka, Khuntia will head IRDAI for three years from the date he assumes charge. Khuntia succeeds T.S. Vijayan who retired as IRDAI head some time back.

Born in Jagatsinghpur district, Khuntia was earlier appointed as the Chief Secretary of Karnataka in September, 2016.
