Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today ordered for a judicial probe into the incident of alleged gang rape of a minor girl of Kunduli in Koraput district.

In accordance with the Commission of Enquiry Act-1952, the probe will be conducted by a district judge, a press release of the Chief Minister’s Office stated.

Worth mentioning, the Odisha Crime Branch is currently probing into the incident classifying it as a ‘Red Flag’ case and the judicial probe will be carried out along with the Crime Branch investigation.

Notably, the CM's move comes a day after the Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) of Odisha police said the medical reports revealed that the minor girl was not gang-raped as claimed by herself and her family.

It may be recalled here that the class-IX student of Kunduli had alleged that she was gang raped by a group of security personnel on October 10 while returning from school.

A case under Sections 376 (D) and 377 of IPC and Section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act had been registered.

On the other hand, Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, criticising the order for judicial probe, said it is a drama and will yield zero results. "If needed, we will take the victim to the state assembly and stage protest there," he added.
