Kendrapara: A girl of Bijaynagar village under Mahakalapada police limits in Odisha's Kendrapara district suspectedly committed suicide today after a youth allegedly uploaded their photos, being taken together, on Facebook besides littering the printouts of the same in the locality.

According to reports, the girl had rejected the marriage proposal of Tapas Mahakud, the accused hailing from Chhatradharpur village under Pattamundai police limits, who had an one-sided love affair with her.

In an apparent move for taking revenge, Mahakud committed the act. After the incident came to fore, the girl took the extreme step by hanging herself with a rope.

Though her family members took her to Kendrapara district headquarters hospital, she was declared dead there.

Police have started investigation into the incident after the family of the deceased lodged an FIR at Mahakalapada police station.

"The girl wasn't interested in a marriage proposal offered by Pratap. He then littered the 'joint photographs' of the duo at Bijaynagar Bazaar. After it came to the notice of the girl, she committed suicide losing mental balance," a police official said.

Till last reports came in, the accused was absconding and efforts were on to trace him.
