Odisha: Hirakud dam closes 10 gates

Sambalpur: Authorities of Hirakud dam today closed 10 gates of the reservoir in view of decrease in water level of the reservoir.

Currently, the floodwater is being released through four sluice gates, said dam authorities.

As per the sources the water level of the dam stood at 619.45 ft at around 6 AM today as against its total storage capacity of 630 ft. While 2,39,846 cusec floodwater was being released from the dam per second, the inflow was 96,836 cusec per second this morning.

Earlier yesterday, the authorities had opened seven more gates to release excess floodwater keeping in view inflow of heavy water into the reservoir following incessant rain in upper catchment of Mahanadi. With this, water was being released through total 14 gates yesterday.
