Odisha IPS officer booked for assaulting pregnant woman

Sundargarh: Trouble mounted for Sundargarh Superintendent of Police (SP) Soumya Mishra after a case was registered against her for allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman.

The IPS officer was booked by the order of Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court following complaint by the victim Priya Dey of Kanika village of the district.

According to the complainant, a police team led by SP Soumya Mishra conducted a raid at her residence to nab her husband Uttam Dey in connection with July 3 Kanika beat house vandalism.

“The raid took place while I and my four-year-old daughter were sleeping at house. The team headed by the SP abused me and threatened to kill my husband during search operation.” Priya said

Priya further alleged, “The officer had hit me hard in the abdomen, as a result of which I suffered a miscarriage.”

Acting on order of the SDJM court, the case under Sections 427, 341, 506, 457,323, 294, 342, 313, 166, 167, 503 and 504 of IPC was lodged against the IPS officer at the Hemgir Police Station.

The court further ordered the DIG of Police (Western Range) to inquire into the allegations against the SP and file a report by December 3, 2019.

Earlier, a similar case of physical assault was registered against the woman police official after the order of SDJM court.
