Sambalpur: With a few days left for Nuakhai festival, 'Lagna' (propitious moment) for offering Navanna (new rice) to Goddess Samaleswari on the auspicious day has been finalised.

The Navanna will be offered to Goddess Samaleswari, between 10.05 AM and 10.20 AM on September 3.

Like every year, the Lagna was decided by the Brahmamandap Pandit Mahasabha at Brahmapura temple here a day after Janmashtami i.e on Saturday.

On Nuakhai, all households of the western Odisha city will offer Navanna to their presiding deity and Goddess Laxmi as a mark of gratitude for a bumper harvest, good rain and favourable weather for farming.

Nuakhai, an agrarian festival, is celebrated with pomp and gaiety across western Odisha districts of Sambalpur, Sundergarh, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Bargarh, Subarnapur, Deogarh, Jharsuguda and Boudh.
