Bhubaneswar: The lawyers body in Odisha today observed one-day cease-work opposing abolition of State Administrative Tribunal (SAT).

Wearing black badges, the SAT Bar Association staged protest in front of the Khordha District & Sessions Judge Court in the morning. The lawyers of all the subordinate courts and members of the Bhubaneswar Bar Association also joined the cease-work against the Centre's move to abolish Odisha Administrative Tribunal.

Recently, Orissa High Court has rejected the plea seeking stay order on abolition of SAT. The court asked the Centre and Odisha government to submit their stands on the matter. The next hearing has been fixed for September 5.

Worth mentioning, the Centre has issued a gazette notification to execute a proposal by the state government for abolishing the SAT on August 5.

However, the SAT Bar Association moved the High Court on August 7 citing the Centre's move as 'illegal'.
