Balasore: A man attempted suicide by slitting his own throat after allegedly killing his wife over family feud in Soro area of Balasore district.

The accused was identified as Sheik Khatun, a resident of Parmahal Sahi under Soro Municipality. He is currently undergoing treatment at Balasore District Headquarters Hospital.

According to reports, Sheik attempted to take extreme step to end his life after eight-month of his marriage following a heated argument between the couple last night. He slit his wife Baby Khatun's throat with a knife following which she died on the spot.

In the morning, he ran towards a religious place, just one km away from his house, where he attempted suicide by slashing his own throat following his wife's death.

The locals, who were watching the scene, informed the police for rescue.

On receiving information, the Soro police reached the spot and found the man attempting to slit his throat inside the religious place. However, the cops managed to prevent him from committing the crime.

He was rushed to the Soro Community Health Centre (CHC) in critical condition. Later, he was shifted to the district hospital in Balasore for treatment.

The police initiated a probe into the incident after sending the deceased's body for post mortem.
