The Odisha government through its attorney will move the authorities for patent as well as geographical indication (GI) tag for the syrupy delicacy, informed  Minister Science and Technology Pradeep Panigrahy here today.

“I must thank Asit Mohanty for the painstaking research he has done to conclude that Rasagola had its origins in Odisha. He through his research has cited that Rasagola existed in Odisha since 15th-16th century as it has been mentioned in the ‘Dandee Ramayana’. Such strong and credible evidence provided by Mohanty in his report two days back is being examined. In the coming days, we through a competent attorney will move the appropriate authorities to stake Odisha’s claim to the patent as well as GI tag for Rasagola,” stated Panigrahy to reporters.

It may be mentioned here that Odisha and Bengal are on an ongoing row over the origin of Rasagola.
