Odisha shocker: Minor girl gangraped, sold to brothel in Kolkata

Balasore: In a shocking incident, two men lured a 15-year-old tribal girl on the pretext of arranging a job for her but later gang-raped and sold her to a brothel in Kolkata, police said today.

The matter came to light after the victim, who managed to escape from the brothel, lodged a police complaint.

The girl belongs to Kotasahi village under Jaleswar police limits in Balasore district.

According to police, the accused – Ajay Jena and Ajay Hembram had taken the minor girl to Kolkata on 22nd July after convincing her mother that she can earn handsomely in the neighbouring state.

Ajay Jena first taken the girl on his bike from her village to Jaleswar bus stand and handed her to Ajay Hembram, who then took her to Kolkata in a bus, the police said quoting her complaint.

She alleged that the two had raped her for several days in a building before selling her to a brothel in Kolkata.

The girl, after reaching her village ten days ago, narrated the whole story before her mother. Following this, a meeting was held in her village to find a solution but the accused didn’t turn up and finding no other ways, the victim lodged complaint, police said.

Acting as per the girl’s complaint, an FIR has been lodged against the two men.

A case under sections 376 D (A), 6 under POCSO Act and 5 under Immoral Trafficking Act was registered against the accused.

Till the time of filing of this report no one was arrested. “We have launched a manhunt to nab the culprits,” said Jaleswar Inspector-In-Charge Pradip Kumar Majhi.
