Bhubaneswar: Odisha took to social media to unleash their feelings as West Bengal successfully bagged the GI tag for Banglar Rasogolla on World Diabetes Day, amidst the ongoing rasogola tussle between Odisha and Bengal.

Finance and Excise Minister of Odisha, Sashibhusan Behera termed this as an insult to Odisha and vehemently stated that rasogola is associated with Jagannath culture and Odia people's sentiments and that the government will oppose it. Meanwhile, the government of Odisha has brought out a press release clarifying that Banglar Rasogolla is specific to West Bengal and Odisha government is in the process of obtaining GI registration for Odishara Rasagola.

Odia netizens on Facebook and Twitter vented their emotions and were heartbroken as Bengalis relished sweet victory.

While some castigated the Odisha government...

There were some downright hilarious posts as well...

And then, there were the ones who believed that all is not lost and that the battle for origin of the syrupy delight is still on:

It remains to be seen as to what steps Odisha government now takes to secure a GI tag for our claim of the rasogola in order to get recognition for the sweet integral to  our cultural identity.
