Rourkela: Even as world is changing at a rapid space driven by science and technology, superstitious beliefs still prevail in human society where a dead youth was buried in a cow dung pit to bring him back to life.

The incident was reported from Pamara village under Baragaon police limits of Sundergarh district in Odisha that surprised many.

According to reports, two friends namely Manoranjan Podha and Gokula Podha of Pamara village had been to a weekly local market on Sunday. On their way back to home, the duo was struck by a dangerous lightning near the village following which Manoranjan became unconscious and fell on the ground and his friend Gokula sustained injuries on his legs.

Following the incident, the villagers gathered at the site to check casualty. Instead of rushing Manoranjan to a hospital for medical care, they attempted to resurrect the dead with cow dung pit.

After the superstitious method went into vain, they took him to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Another youth, who was injured in the lightning strike, was admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Baragaon for treatment.
