Cuttack: Newborn twins joined at stomach were shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Sishu Bhawan here today after preliminary tests.

The babies underwent CT scan, ultra sound and other medical examinations following which they were shifted to the ICU.

The twin sisters have been kept under observation by a team of doctors.

The conjoined twins were born to Kishore Dutta and Sumitra Dutta at a private clinic on Friday evening in Nayagarh district.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena after reviewing the health condition at Sishu Bhawan announced that the government will bear all the medical expenses of the conjoined twins and provision will be made for their treatment outside the state if required.

Notably, this is the second case after conjoined twins Jaga-Kalia, who were recently separated following two major surgeries at AIIMS in New Delhi on Oct 25.
