Odisha’s historic Bali Yatra begins in Cuttack

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s largest trade and commerce fair ‘Bali Yatra’ today began on the banks of Mahanandi River at Cuttack. The festival was inaugurated by Health Minister Pratap Jena this evening.

For people, Bali Yatra provides an opportunity to commemorate the rich maritime history of Odisha.

Thousands of traders from the state and outside have put up their stalls at the venue. Official sources said around 1400 stalls have been installed on the ground, spread over the 47 acres of land in the city.

As per the National Green Tribunal (NGT) guidelines polythene carry bags and plastic cups have been banned at the venue.

The district administration, CMC (Cuttack Municipal Corporation), commissionerate police, CESU (Central Electricity Supply Utility) and the fire services department have been kept on alert to ensure smooth delivery of services all through the festival.

Cultural programmes by artists from Odisha and outside have been organised to keep the visitors entertained at the Baishanb Pani Mandap.

As many as 50 platoons of police have been deployed for the smooth conduct of the seven-day long trade fair that ends on November 10.

Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera, BJD MLA Ranendra Pratap Swain among others were present at the inaugural day.
