Bhubaneswar: Manoj Kumar Maharana has created a new Guinness World Record for most number of plastic drinking straws stuffed in the mouth (hands off).

This 23-year-old challenger from Odisha had to ensure that all the 459 colourful straws remained inside his mouth without even one falling out for 10 seconds to break the earlier record. According to the rules, the straws needed to be of minimum diameter of 0.64 cm each. The challenger cannot use his hands to support the straws and has to hold them together (may use elastic bands for the same) for a 10-second period, which Manoj easily managed and broke the unchallenged record of eight years.

The previous record holder of this feat was Simon Elmore, who had crammed 400 such straws in his mouth at the Mark 'n' Simon show in Germany. Elmore had inspired Manoj to attempt this stunt as he always wanted to achieve a Guinness World Record title since childhood.
