Open air gym launched in 11 more parks in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: If you are living in Odisha capital and continues to be a fitness freak then here is good news! The city development authority has installed open air gym in 11 more parks across the city in order to promote healthy lifestyle among the denizens.

With the new additions, Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has now installed facilities of Open Air Gym at 26 parks at various parts of the city. Nearly two years ago, the city had started with one such facility at Buddha Jayanti Park, which later became five and extended to 15 parks in 2017.

The parks where open gym facilities have been added recently are Buxi Jagabandhu Park in Mahisakhal, Chandrasekharpur Phase-1 BDA Housing Colony Park in Ward 8, Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Park in Gandamunda, Mahatma Gandhi Park in Jayadev Vihar, K-8 Park in Kalinga Nagar, Joggers’ Park in Chandrasekharpur, K-6 Subudhipur Park, Rental Colony BDA Park in Ward – 15, Badagad Brit Colony Park, N-5 BDA Park in IRC Village and VIP Area Park in Ward-15.

Work on open gym facility will start soon at Prajnya Vihar Park near Baramunda.

The BDA has introduced these popular outdoor workout equipments in the above 11 parks after it garnered huge popularity among people, official souces said.

Each set of outdoor fitness equipment comprised an air walker, sit-up bench, air swing, twister, set back or glider, push and pull up chair, knee/hip raise on parallel bars, big shoulder wheel, spinner, bench with fixed dumbbell, bench with fixed weight lift and poles with fixed weight.

Worth mentioning, the then Urban Development Minister Pushpendra Singh Deo, on the occasion of

the 33rd foundation day of BDA, had inaugurated the first Open Air Gym facility on September 1, 2015, at Buddha Jayanti Park in Niladri Vihar. Later in the same year Biju Patnaik Park near Capital Hospital, Kelucharan Park near Netaji Subhash Enclave, Gadakana, Madhusudan Park at Pokhariput and Kharavela Park near Khandagiri-Udayagiri caves were added to the list.
