Rakhi Purnima celebrated at Jagannath temple in Odisha's Puri

Puri: Rakhi purnima was celebrated on the holy occasion of Gamha purnima (Birthday of Lord Balaram) with all the rituals at Lord Jagannath temple in pilgrim town Puri this morning.

Although, lord Jagannath along with his siblings Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra is being worshipped as 'Avataari' (Brahma) at Jagannath temple in Sreekhetra Puri, he used to act like human being, follow all the rules and observe festivals.

On Rakhi purnima, rituals were conducted for the deities and goddess Subhadra tied rakhi (sacred thread), prepared by jaga patera family of Dolamandap sahi, to her elder brothers Lord Jagannath and Lord Balabhadra.

The rakhi rituals were performed early in the temple due to partial lunar eclipse following shower at 5 am, clothes offering at 5,45 am, jewellery offering at 6 am.

Due to lunar eclipse, other rituals of the deities will be performed after 12.48 midnight.
