Bhubaneswar/Puri: Renowned sculptor from Odisha Padma Vibhushan Raghunath Mohapatra has ascertained that a replica of the celebrated Sun Temple of Konark will be created soon.

With a budget of Rs. 300 crore, Mohapatra is optimistic of erecting this marvel of architectural genius in eight years. He has already purchased 60 acres of land between Sakhigopal and Satasankha in Puri district and conducted the groundbreaking ceremony this year.

"I had promised Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik that instead of making tall claims, I would let my work speak for itself. It took me six months and 15 sculptors to replicate the design and present it before him. If we can achieve this in such a short span, I am optimistic to complete construction of the entire temple in a time-bound manner," said Mohapatra.

Mohapatra recently revealed an imitated portion of the outer facade of the temple, complete with the intricate carvings and two imposing Konark chakras (chariot wheels) that flank the outer perimeter of the temple.

Though there has been no financial assistance from Centre and state government, so far, many individuals have come forward to pool in resources and support Mohapatra in his attempt.
