Showers may pour cold water on twin festivities in Odisha

The regional weather office has predicted rainfall in several parts across Odisha which is poised to play a spoilsport for the people drenched in the festive spirit.

The preparations for Ganesh Chaturthi on Monday and Nuakhai celebrations on the following day are on the verge of completion amid occasional drizzle and overcast conditions.

The regional Meteorological office here has predicted that heavy to very heavy rainfall coupled with gusty surface wind is likely to lash some parts of North and South Odisha in next 24 hours due to the formation of a low pressure area over Bay of Bengal.

Rain or thundershower is likely to occur at most places over Odisha during next 24 hours, the weather bulletin said.

Strong and gusty surface wind with speed reaching 35 to 45 kmph gusting 55 kmph likely to prevail along and off Odisha Coast. As the sea condition would be rough to very rough, the fishermen are advised to be cautious while venturing into the sea, the MeT office said.

In the last 24 hours, many places across the state received good amount of rainfall. While Sambalpur received 150 mm rainfall, port town Paradip received 44 mm of rainfall. Similarly, Puri received 35 mm, Jharsuguda 28 mm, Balasore 27 mm, Chandbali and Bhubaneswar 13 mm each rainfall in the past 24 hours.
