Bhubaneswar: Budget carrier SpiceJet today announced that it has discontinued its direct flight service to Delhi from Odisha's Veer Surendra Sai (VSS) Airport in Jharsuguda on Mondays.

The Gurgaon-based carrier, responding to a passenger’s query, tweeted that flights to Delhi from Jharsuguda on Mondays shall remained cancelled till September 30.

“The flights have been discontinued due to scheduled change,” the airline mentioned in its tweet.

Notably, the SpiceJet had launched daily direct flights to Delhi from Jharsuguda on March 31 under the Centre's regional connectivity scheme UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik).

"Jharsuguda, Odisha's top investment and manufacturing hub, marks SpiceJet's maiden entry into the state and will be the airline's tenth destination under UDAN," the airline had said in a statement.

Earlier in the week, Airports Authority of India (AAI) had decided to install Instrument Landing System (ILS) at the VSS Airport in Jharsuguda to ensure unhindered flight services. The new system, which will come up at a cost of Rs 5.5 crore, will be ready for operation within six months.
