Technical team to assess Daya river water quality: Odisha Min

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has finally woken up to the high level of pollution in river Daya and its distributaries.

The State government today decided to constitute a technical team comprising of officials of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) department to assess water quality in different areas adjoining river Daya and its distributaries.

The team will visit these areas to collect water samples and ascertain level of pollutants present in it.

The team will submit its report to the government within 15 days.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Revenue Minister Maheswar Mohanty.

Further, it was also decided to dig ponds to supply water to the people wherever it will be found that the water is unfit for use.

“A technical team of the RWSS will visit these areas and conduct a quality assessment of drinking water available there. The team will submit a report within 15 days suggesting measures to be taken for improving water quality in those areas. We will again meet after the report is available to us and decide on a solution to the problem,” informed Revenue Minister Mohanty briefing reporters after the meeting.

Notably, the Revenue Minister after a review meeting on October 31 last had said that water of Daya river was polluted and was unfit for both consumption and farm purpose as well.
