This is how women motorists spread awareness on organ donation in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: Sunday morning saw Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar filled with cars and motorbikes ready to go roaring through the city. With over 300 women present, this event called out for two-member women teams to go around the city in order to spread awareness on organ donation.

Every team was given a map at the starting point with a route chart that covered the entire town. Before the motorists embarked on the ride, their odometer was reset to zero. A crowd of over 100 others had assembled to flag off the rally with MLA Priyadarshi Mishra, Shruti Mahapatra, Twin City Commissioner Y B Khurania and DG of the Rotary District 3262 Ajay Agarwal, among others.

Jayashree Mohanty, organiser of the Women's Rotary Motor Rally said, "Our organisation is committed to social causes and we wanted to shed light on the virtues of organ donation by this event. Moreover, it is high time that we break the stereotype that driving in an exclusive men bastion."

Ittun Mahapatra, a participant in the rally who believes in the nobility of the cause said, "I am excited to be a part of such an event. I wish more people could be selfless to make a contribution to the society and make someone's life better, even after death."

Bhubaneswar MLA (North) Priyadarshi Mishra applauded the efforts of the organisers and stressed that such endeavours not only empower women, but also raises consciousness on various important social issues.
