Bhubaneswar: While the world is grappling with one of world's gravest menace of child labour, several organisation in association with Odisha government yesterday organised a photo exhibition to make people aware of its perils.

Inaugurated by Anu Garg, state Labour Department Secretary, in the presence of Labour Commissioner Sachin Jadhav and L N Nanda of UNICEF, this exhibition has three sections depicting children engaged in child labour, its prevention and government mechanism addressing the issue.

Sixty pictures are on display at Regional Lalit Kala Kendra in Bhubaneswar till November 19 aiming at making people cognizant of this prevailing menace and saving children from it.

The exhibition was also attended by two girls, Manorama and Subhashree, who were earlier engaged as child labour. They have now enrolled in a school.

Worth mentioning, India has the largest child labour workforce in the world due to its vast population, according to UNICEF estimation. The irony is, it is a criminal offence in India to employ children below the age of 14 in hazardous industries under Article 24 of Constitution of India, which guarantees their protection.
