Puri: Good news for commuters in the pilgrim town of Puri as a two-lane railway overbridge (ROB) will soon be constructed at Matiapada level crossing on National Highway-316 near Gundicha Temple here.

The project, which has been a long-standing demand of locals here, has been approved by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, informed Puri MP Pinaki Misra on his Twitter handle today.

The district administration will soon begin land acquisition process for construction of the 63.84-metre-long bridge and estimates for the same will be prepared for approval of the competent authorities, the MP said, adding that tender will floated for the project shortly.

The Parliamentarian also thanked Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for the development.

The CM said, “The promise made to the people of Puri will soon be fulfilled. Construction of the ROB will help improve communication and solve various traffic woes affecting locals in the pilgrim town since long.”

Earlier, locals under the banner of Jana Jagaran Manch had launched a signature campaign to put pressure on the Government for construction of the ROB.

A local said, “Large numbers of vehicles wait for long at the level crossing during passage of trains. The railway overbridge will ease traffic congestion on the NH.”
