Cuttack: The Malgodown police today arrested a student of Ravenshaw University on charges of posting obscene photographs of his girlfriend and physically assaulting her inside the campus.

The accused identified as Subhrajit Ray, a final year BBA student, who was earlier suspended from the varsity for two years for his involvement in Lalitgiri hostel clash.

The police nabbed the accused for interrogation following a written complaint lodged by the girl victim alleging him of posting her obscene photos on social media and making those viral.

She also alleged that she was thrashed and misbehaved by him three days back inside the university campus after she rejected his proposal.

According to reports, Subhrajit and his girlfriend were in close relationship earlier. The obscene photographs of the girl went viral on social media by the embarrassed beau when she said 'No' to his proposal.

The victim lodged written complaint with the university authorities and Malgodown police after she found her obscene photos on social media.

Following the complaint, the university authorities handed over the matter to Gender Sensitisation Committee Against Sexual Harassment (GSCASH) for probe.

"The GSCASH is probing the matter. Disciplinary action will be taken by the committee against the student if he is found guilty," told Ravenshaw University VC Ishan Kumar Patro.

Despite several attempts, the committee members were not available to respond in the matter.

The accused student will be produced in the court this afternoon.
