Malkangiri: Far from the civilized world, people of tribal-affiliated Malkangiri district in Odisha still depend largely on black magic to cure various ailments. In a glaring example of such prevailing blind beliefs and superstition, a sorcerer has been caught on camera sucking different parts of a woman’s body in Kalimela block to cure her fever.

As per sources, one Dule Beti a tribal woman belonging to Koya community of Urmaguda village, around 8 km from Kalimela block, was suffering from fever for the last couple of days. Instead of consulting a doctor, the woman went to a sorcerer identified as Kosa Beti to get cured.

In the video, the quack was seen chanting 'Mantras' and performing other rituals in front of the woman. What is more disturbing is that, the black magician was seen sucking several body parts of the woman, including her neck, shoulder and stomach.

It may be mentioned here that superstitious practices are widely prevalent in tribal belts of the state. Instead of visiting hospitals, the tribal people mainly depend on local quacks or back magicians for treatment of various health diseases.

Earlier on July 25, a sorcerer was seen performing witchcraft in the morgue of Kalahandi District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) to resurrect a dead man.
