Soro: An Excise department official was seen being beaten by some persons near a court in Soro area of Odisha's Balasore district last evening.

The official, identified as Prabhas Mohanty, was reportedly attacked by supporters of a liquor trader who was arrested along with four of his associates after Excise department conducted raids in Soro, Khantapada and Markona area.

After a local court rejected the bail pleas of the five, they were being taken to jail while some miscreants, believed to be supporters of the businessman, thrashed Mohanty.

Excise department will lodge an FIR against the accused and seek action against them, an official said.
