Balasore: A woman gave birth to a baby girl inside a train, which was stranded near Jaleswar station in Odisha’s Balasore district, due to a rail roko by the tribals in West Bengal.

Arsha Jahan, who was travelling in Secunderabad-Guwahati Express from Vijaywada to Bihar, delivered the baby in S5 coach at around 7 in the morning, sources said.

At around 6.30 am, Arsha went into labour and following this her relatives, who were travelling with her, informed the station master seeking his help to bring a doctor and nurse from a nearby hospital.

Station Master Khagendra Mandal called a doctor who arrived and helped the woman deliver the baby. Both mother and newborn are fine, Madal said.

Trains passing through Odisha and West Bengal were stuck for hours and passengers faced a tough time on Monday due to the rail roko by the tribals in the neighbouring state demanding the introduction of Santhali language Ol Chiki in all schools and colleges.

The tribals also staged rail roko at Nekarsuni in West Bengal.

Worth mentioning, the Santhali Association has been demanding that Ol Chiki language should be taught as Mother India Language the same way as Telugu, Bengali and Urdu since the language was recognized under the 8th schedule of the Constitution.
