Jharsuguda: The Badmal police have arrested three persons including a mobile phone mechanic for allegedly downloading private videos of a woman engineer of Vedanta here from her mobile phone and blackmailing her using the same.

The arrested are identified as Aman Mal, Ritesh Soni and Ashish Jaiswal, all residents of Jharsuguda.

According to reports, the engineer, hailing from Rajasthan, had given her mobile phone for repairing at a shop here on September 20.

However, the mechanic, while repairing the handset, downloaded personal videos of the woman present in the cell phone.

He later sent the videos to her via WhatsApp in a bid to blackmail her and demanded Rs 5 lakh threatening her to make it viral in case of non-payment of the amount. Two associates of the mechanic assisted him in the act.

The woman informed police about the incident following which a trap was laid to nab the accused. While the woman was on the way to pay them money, police nabbed the trio and arrested them.

They will be forwarded to court today, police sources said.
