Cuttack: Tension gripped SCB Medical College and Hospital (MCH) in Odisha's Cuttack city this morning as junior doctors staged a dharna protesting an alleged attack on a doctor by a patient's kin.

The medicos also resorted to cease work demanding arrest of those involved in the incident and ensuring of safety of doctors in the hospital by the authorities.

Medical service at the hospital was affected due to the agitation by the junior doctors.

"Relatives of a patient, who were in an inebriated state, argued with me and later manhandled me after I declared the patient dead," said the doctor.

The agitators have alleged that similar incidents took place in the past but no steps have been taken by the hospital authorities towards the safety of doctors despite repeated complaints.

On the other hand, police have detained three persons in connection with the incident. There were no arrests till last reports came in.
