Cuttack: A deadly head-on collision between a car and a truck near Balikuda in Odisha's Cuttack district claimed lives of three persons and critically injured two others last night.

The deceased were identified as Trinath Mohapatra, Durga Prasad Singh, both hailing from Tigiria in Khordha, and Ratan Jena of Netaji Nagar in Cuttack.

The injured have been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital here for treatment.

According to police sources, all the five persons travelling in the ill-fated four wheeler were initially trapped inside the vehicle as it got crushed under the impact of the collision.

On being informed, Cuttack Sadar police reached the spot and rescued the victims using gas cutter. However, three of them had succumbed to their injuries by that time.
