Basta: In a shocking and disturbing incident, a three-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a neighbor in Keshpura village under the Jaleswar police limits in Odisha's Baleshwar district.
Despite a formal complaint being lodged a year ago, the victim's family alleges that police inaction has emboldened the accused, who is now threatening the family to withdraw the case.
Details of the incident
According to the reports, the incident dates back to October 6, 2025, which coincided with the Gajalakshmi Puja festival. The victim’s parents had traveled to Jaleswar for work. As their return was delayed, the three-year-old child and her brother went to a neighbor’s house to make a phone call to their parents.
Taking advantage of the situation, a neighbor allegedly lured the toddler inside by offering her snacks and subjected her to sexual assault.
When the parents returned home and learned of the horrific ordeal from the children, they immediately rushed to the Jaleswar police station and filed a written complaint.
Allegations of police inactivity and threats
The victim’s family expressed deep anguish over the handling of the case. Although a police case was registered, the family claims that law enforcement has taken no concrete action or made any arrests to date.
Emboldened by the apparent lack of police follow-up, the accused has reportedly been issuing continuous threats to the grieving family, forcing them to drop the charges. Living in constant fear, the family is now desperately appealing to higher authorities and the district administration for justice and protection.
