Aska: In a tragic incident, an elderly couple allegedly died by suicide just four days after their daughter’s wedding in Kalasuta village under Gangapur police station limits in Odisha's Ganjam district.

Husband and wife found hanging from single rope inside home

The deceased have been identified as Simanchal Bisoyi (65) and his wife Namita Bisoyi (60). According to reports, the couple was found hanging from a single rope tied to a wooden beam inside their house late at night.

Upon receiving information, local police reached the spot, recovered the bodies, and initiated an investigation. An executive magistrate also visited the scene, and the bodies were later sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Police officials said further questioning of family members is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the incident.

Recent family events add to mystery

According to reports, the couple had two children - one son and one daugter. Simanchal had four daughters from his first marriage and they are all married.

The incident has shocked the local community, especially as it comes shortly after a family celebration. The couple had solemnised their younger daughter’s wedding in Singipur village on April 21. The traditional post-wedding ritual was held just a day before the incident.

Tragedy had already struck the family a few months ago, with the death of their 18-year-old son nearly four months earlier.

Financial stress and family issues suspected behind extreme step

While the exact reason behind the suicide is yet to be confirmed, preliminary police investigation suggests that financial stress related to loans and pending expenses from the wedding may have led to a dispute between the couple, ultimately resulting in the extreme step.

Authorities have stated that all angles are being examined, and a clearer picture will emerge after the investigation is complete.
