Kuchinda (Sambalpur): On charges of sexually assaulting his minor niece with disabilities, police have arrested a man in Sambalpur district.

The complaint was lodged in February at the Govindpur police station by the victim’s mother. The minor girl, who is mentally challenged and has hearing and speech impairments, was found to be pregnant, prompting the family to approach the police.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and an investigation was launched.

As part of the probe, DNA tests were conducted on seven individuals. The results confirmed a match between the minor’s DNA and that of her uncle.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to the crime. He has been arrested and forwarded to court for further legal proceedings.
