Paralakhemundi: In a major crackdown, the Gajapati Police has detained over 70 people following a raid on a suspected illegal casino operating at a kalyan mandap (marriage hall) in Paralakhemundi.

Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted a raid on the marriage hall near Debiti under Paralakhemundi Adarsha Police Station limits.

Apart from detention of a large number of people, police seized Rs 12 lakh in cash, nine cars and 60 mobile phones from the premises.

Several police officers and personnel took part in the operation. 

Investigation is underway at the spot to ascertain the circumstances under which the alleged casino was being operated at the marriage hall.

Police are also investigating the involvement of individuals in the suspected illegal gambling operation and the source of the seized cash and other items.

More details regarding the identities of those detained and possible legal action are awaited as the investigation progresses.
